MISS UNIVERSE PUERTO RICO 2019 IS MEDISON ANDERSON


Pageant veteran Madison Anderson, representing Toa Baja, was crowned the new Miss Universe Puerto Rico in glittering finale held June 13 at the Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce in San Juan.

The 23-year-old marketing and public relations student bested 27 other candidates for the right to represent the Caribbean island in the next edition of the Miss Universe competition.



She received the crown from outgoing queen and Miss Universe 2018 Top 5 finalist Kiara Liz Ortega, who broke Puerto Rico’s four-year placement drought in Miss Universe.


The 15 semifinalists were Bayamón, Peñuelas, Dorado, Villalba, Toa Alta, San Sebastián, Cayey, Loíza, Toa Baja, Camuy, Morovis, Carolina, Salinas, Lares and Arecibo. The semifinalist chosen by the public was Aguada. 

The 15 semifinalists paraded in swimsuits to the rhythm of Ozuna while they were evaluated by the jury.

After the competition in swimsuits, the group of finalists was reduced to 10. This group was formed by Villalba, San Sebastián, Dorado, Cayey, Morovis, Toa Alta, Carolina, Loíza, Camuy and Toa Baja. 

The 5 finalists of this edition of Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2019 were San Sebastián, Camuy, Toa Baja, Carolina and Dorado. The sixth finalist, chosen by the public, was Cayey, Verónica Montano. 

Miss San Sebastian, she received her final question from Alba Reyes. Alan Sokol, was in charge of asking the final question to Miss Camuy. On the other hand, Andro Nodarse-León, asked the final question to Miss Toa Baja, who confronted problems for Spanish not being her main language. Miss Carolina, answered Roselyn Sánchez's question about what her job would be like Miss Universe Puerto Rico. Miss Dorado, she received her final question from the model Agueda López.




The three finalists of the night, and who according to the jury were the best in answering the final question were: San Sebastián, Camuy, Toa Baja. This group of candidates answered the final question about violence against women.

In the 'final look', the last three candidates paraded their gala costume accompanied by Willy Rodríguez, vocalist of Cultura Propética. 

In the special awards, Miss Villalba received the Woman of Valor prize from L'oreal Paris, for her community work with the deaf community of Puerto Rico. Miss Universe 1993, congratulated the candidate through a video. The award was presented by Maydé Columna, Miss Orocovis 2018, who received the same prize in the last edition of the Contest.
